The right canvas size depends on where it is going. For a desk, a shelf or as a filler in a gallery wall, stay small — 8" x 8" up to 12" x 8" — which is the range our mini canvas prints cover.

In a hallway, a bedroom or above a dresser, a mid-size canvas between 16" x 20" and 20" x 30" sits best. Both gallery wrapped and framed canvas prints work at this size, so the choice comes down to whether you want the image running edge-to-edge or a defined border around it.

Above a sofa or a bed you need a feature piece. Go 24" x 36" or larger, up to 40" x 60" — that is where our large canvas prints do their work.

Wide walls and landscape shots call for a different shape rather than a bigger one. A panoramic canvas print between 12" x 20" and 24" x 40" fills a long wall without overwhelming it.

For a full gallery wall, a multi-piece canvas wall display is the easier route than hanging several separate prints, since the pieces are sized and spaced to work together.

Rule of thumb: pick a canvas about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it, and hang it with the centre at eye level, roughly 57" from the floor.
